ABOUT THE PROJECT
Description
The Can Maor project transforms a traditional Mediterranean villa into a high-standard, minimalist sanctuary. The intervention strips away ornamental clutter to reveal pure geometric volumes that harmonize with the surrounding forest landscape. By reconfiguring the building envelope, the home becomes a luminous retreat that embodies “barefoot luxury”.
Challenges
The original property faced significant aesthetic and functional obsolescence, characterized by a fragmented interior layout and a lack of fluid connection between living spaces. Architecturally, the building was obstructed by decorative elements typical of traditional construction—such as ornate wrought-iron window grills, heavy dark timber shutters, and rustic railings—which severely limited natural light infiltration and visually cluttered the facade. Additionally, the outdoor areas, including the pool and terraced gardens, were functionally disconnected and required a complete landscape overhaul to establish a cohesive relationship with the primary residence.

Solutions
The strategy focused on “spatial cleaning,” removing non-essential decorative elements to emphasize the home’s essential forms. Large-format minimalist glazing was introduced to establish a continuous dialogue with the topography, while dark partitions were replaced with open-plan layouts to maximize luminosity. The exterior was unified through a complete landscape overhaul, integrating a redesigned pool and sun deck as natural extensions of the interior lounge.
