ABOUT THE PROJECT
Description
EcoRefugi is an innovative urban furniture concept designed to transform public wait times into an opportunity for environmental civic action. The project reinterprets the traditional bus stop as a sustainable structure made of wood, serving as a symbolic reminder of our natural essence in the 21st-century urban landscape. It is a piece designed not just for utility, but to foster social interaction and ecological awareness..
Challenges
Modern cities have historically prioritized economic performance and individual comfort at the expense of our natural ecosystem. Public transportation hubs are often symbols of modern excess rather than sustainability. The challenge was to create a functional urban shelter that encourages citizens to take personal responsibility for the environment, moving beyond passive observation to active participation in global ecological efforts.

Solutions
The design introduces a “civic-eco” gesture by integrating small planters directly into the structural wooden lattice of the bus stop. Citizens are encouraged to use their waiting time to plant seeds and water them, fostering a direct connection with the local ecosystem. Once a plant has matured, the citizen who cared for it is invited to take it home, while the city council maintains and replaces the pots to ensure the cycle of “eco-civic” action continues. This transforms the bus stop into a training ground for sustainable development and shared social responsibility.
