ABOUT THE PROJECT
Description
Can Germà is a project that breathes new life into a traditional Mediterranean villa, emphasizing a harmonious balance between rustic heritage and modern spatial clarity. The intervention focuses on opening the interior volumes to the expansive valley views, creating a residence defined by luminosity and a curated “barefoot luxury” aesthetic. By celebrating the home’s original structural elements, the design achieves a timeless character that feels deeply rooted in its pine forest setting.
Challenges
The existing property was characterized by a fragmented floor plan and heavy masonry that restricted the flow of natural light. Traditional elements, such as thick stone walls and small apertures, created a sense of enclosure that felt disconnected from the vibrant exterior landscape. The primary challenge was to modernize the technical infrastructure and living program while preserving the tactile warmth of the original farmhouse soul.

Solutions
The architectural response involved the strategic removal of internal partitions to create a fluid, open-plan living and kitchen area. We introduced large-format, minimalist sliding glass systems that function as “disappearing” walls, merging the indoor lounge with the terraced pool deck. To unify the different levels, we integrated bespoke timber elements and a sculptural staircase that lightens the visual weight of the masonry. The exterior was reconfigured to include shaded pergolas and outdoor dining zones that act as natural extensions of the domestic experience, all oriented toward the sunset.
